I have come across many people who where a Tourbillon watch( well not that many) , when I commented on there their watch, they say proudly its a Patek or a A.P (short for Audemars Piguet) etc Tourbillon.

I say WOW what does a Tourbillon do? Aand 95% of the time they have no idea whatsoever.

Who wears a Tourbillon?

There are two kind of people:,

The first are Watch collectors who love watches and can talk to you for an hour about the mechanism and about how every part works together like a beautiful symphony.

The other kind are neuveaux riche (new money) who want a very expensive watch must buy it.

What is a Tourbillon movement and what makes it very expensive?

First of all there are very few companies in the world (mostly Swiss) who can produce a Tourbillon movement, and they produce the Tourbillon movements for most of the Swiss luxury watch companies.

Second of all, a Tourbillon was one of the first watches to keep perfect time. I don’t mean that it keeps time pretty well, it keeps time perfectly. Other watches are jolted or moved around a bit and they lose or gain a second or two. This is because the Tourbillon was one of the first watches (in 1795) to have an escapement built in. Escapement means “whirlwind ” in French. The escapement, the little rotating circle on the face, keeps the watch´s kinetic energy longer by acting against gravity to conserve the watch’s energy, no matter how much the watch-wearer moves.

D.O.S. Attack On Another Site Disrupts Service

Users in Europe may have had some temporary disruptions to their service over the last week or so. We apologise for this, it seems that a D.O.S. attack took place - targeted at another site hosted on the same server as Global Watch Market. The result of this was that, for users in Europe, the site was offline for just over two days.

While we have been assured that Global Watch Market was not the target of the attack, we are taking precautions to make sure any data we have of yours is secure. Sellers will receive emails shortly detailing new passwords for their accounts.

Changes to the 'Product Information' Page

Update: Site Improvements

As described below, we're making some important changes to the way the site works. So far the following improvements have been implemented:

Buyer Registration -

To buy through the site, you no longer need to register with us. This will increase the amount of enquires that sellers received through the site and make it more user-friendly for buyers.

Searching-

The 'Quick Search' feature is now much faster. The feature searches through the title of each listing, most titles contain all the important general descriptive statements (brand/model/reference no. etc.) that you need in order to find what you're looking for.

Featured Watches -

The watches shown on the home page are now displayed in a much tidier fashion, providing enough details to catch your attention in a concise and aesthetically pleasing way.

Site Improvements

We'd like to give you more information about the improvements we're currently working on. Outlined below are some of the most significant changes, many of which are based on your feedback.

Buyer Login -

Buyers will no longer be required to login or register in order to send messages to sellers or purchase watches via PayPal. All buyer accounts will be disabled while we trial this, if the change becomes permanent then there will be no need for an account anyway.

Watch Hunter -

This feature will be a new page where users can input their email and the details of a watch - the system will then email them once the watch they are looking for has been found.

Page Layout -

All pages on the site will become shorter and more focussed to the needs of the user. The search results pages will load faster and show only relevant information. The watch information pages (the individual page for each listed watch) will be streamlined and the box giving the watch's description greatly enlarged. Where categories are not available (e.g. 'year of manufacture:') they will simply not appear rather than take up space.

Searching -

The 'advanced search' is to become more focussed in response to your feedback. The 'quick search' will be made much faster and more accurate - you will be able to input a model name, brand name or exact reference number and find what you're looking for very quickly. It will also be easier to refine your search by, for example, adding extra parameters or changing the sort order.

Shop by Brand -

There will be new options to make shopping by brand easier should you be looking for a particular make. This will take the place of the current 'gallery' feature.

Contacting the Seller -

As mentioned above there will be no need to login to do this. Users will be able to contact the seller of a watch easily via a form on the watch listing page. This form will be accessible by a tab at the top of the page.

We are making many other changes to the site over the coming weeks, each one is aimed at making the site a thriving online community and facilitating the buying and selling of watches.
